This was the time when the majority that is now Equil was covered by The Wastes, a devastation across the land. How long it stayed this way is unknown but at some point the Avatar known as the Travelling Man placed His Staff on the ground and the Wastes receded.
The he, who is known as the Original Kaine, gathered together Bandit Tribes and laid the foundations of what is now the Capital city, Refuge.
The Book of The Pit though called a book is a collection of verbal stories, tales and myths that date to this time and much earlier.
