As the leaders of our respective countries do they best to destroy each other, we lower forms of social life have noticed a combination of stories and rumours surfacing about crystals. It would seem that a contingent of Pirates have been smuggling them in for unknown people and purposes. The remains of one pirate was found on the coast of Equil – his body burnt from the inside. Whether this is the same pirate group or another but it would seem that an expedition of Chevellian and Equillonian diplomats sent to the frozen north also discovered a man, floating in the sea, barely alive clutching what was described as a crystalline shard. This man, clearly insane, died en-route – what happened to the crystal no-one knows. Though stories have it rumoured to be either with the people of the North or back in Chevel.
Other folk seem to be carrying similar shards, the leader of the Fists of Havok that attack Ash a few years ago was said to have one – though this again has been lost. The Fists of Havok were allegedly destroyed by the Dalcimeer patrols but it has been stated that remnants of that group still exists and have been harrying the local merchants travelling to the Dalcimeer Capital Yssmarr. If the elves did take the shard from the bandits then perhaps it is now in the hands in the undead queen. Unsubstantiated rumours flying round bars and military bases are of another elf, this one pale or grey travelling from Helvetia into the Wild Lands with a crystal. It is hard to clarify stories from Nadarr but it would seem even tales of a shard has appeared in that far flung place
This may, it would see, not be the first shard the unliving have possessed. The small situation in Brindle where an unknown creature tried to lure unwary travellers into a trap causing the undead to rise was also, according to local sources , looking for a crystal shard. Whether It got one is unsure as the secret died with It. It was not the only one initiating searches, the barbarian Pillai have sent a variety of individuals searching for these, it would seem at the behest of the Emperor, and Kahzaran politics, linked to a search for a shard, between the assassins and thieves have raged not just in their country but in others as well.
What these crystals are and their purpose is unknown though it is suspected to be at least linked to Magic in some form. Neither the Priests or Mages seem to be willing to talk. Whether these are linked or unlinked events is unsure but anyone who discovers more please add here.
