Dariss

From Twilight Realms Wiki

“Give me a sword in the hand rather than the dagger in the dark or the dusty tome”

“Graggghhhhh!!!!!!”
Orc Shaman

Dariss is generally shown as either male or female though most Realmsfolk seem to refer to Him when speaking in prayer. Dariss may have many names throughout the Realms. Most would call on Dariss in times of strife for strength or before a battle is joined.

The common perception of worshippers of Dariss are bloodthirsty berserkers who would rather taste blood and battle than food and wine. Orcs and Brindilians spring to mind but this is the concepts of the bigoted and unimaginative. Yes there are those that take the precept of the God quite literally but the truth is very different.

There are many ways of worship a Priest of Dariss uses. Though the following is not a definitive guide it hopefully will give you the concept of the variability out in the Realms. Though I have given the types category names it is more to do with the human nature of compartmentalising than any distinctive personalities. As we all know personalities vary from person to person but hopefully will give those reading this an idea.

The Warrior Priest

These Realsmfolk prefer to solve problems with sword and mace rather than words would fit here but again this is general view. There are warrior-types that know of the ways of war and are battle planners and strategic advisors to Kings and Queens, peaceful negotiators that see it is not in Dariss’s interest to wage war at that time. There are also those who serve honour amongst all others, will not attack a worthy opponent whose back is turned, rituals of honour combat so elaborate, and in cases non lethal, that they are like dancers than fighters.

The Crusader Priest

These Realmsfolk tend to have a War against something or someone. Injustice, a specific race, a specific Realmsfolk are a few examples. It is said that some races, Orcs and Dwarves for example are born with particular grudges so from the day of their birth they honour Dariss. Though some state this is the Gods’ Curse handed down from on high for past transgressions explaining why some of the Realms races are called the Forsaken. Priests who are judge, jury and executioner cover this as well as those that take up battle in the Name of Dariss whether by slight to Dariss’s name or honour.

Avatars

There are no known Avatars as yet

As with all the Gods as long as you worship the tenets of War in all its myriad guises then Realmsfolk Priests will be Blessed by Dariss. This brings up a topic that can be termed heretical, the Darker perspectives of Dariss.

The Heretical View

There are those in the Realms that also call upon Dariss to do, what most Realmsfolk would term Evil yet despite this Dariss still blesses them with favours and spells. Therefore it is speculated that there is a Darker Side to the Gods. This is highly controversial topic and is still debated on. The theories range from a terrible tragedy that twisted or corrupted the Gods to a deal made with Sardonyx.''
