Declaration of Independence
From Twilight Realms Wiki
Dalcimeer was long a nation considered naught more than an extension of Nadar, the original Elven homeland. The Dalcimeerian nation was a colony of the original Nadar and owed allegiance to the King of that fair Isle.
As the years, and centuries passed, Dalcimeer was given some self control and autonomy by the Kings of Nadarr - as the distance between nations was too great for a direct hand in their daily affairs. Thus the Viceroy's came into existence.
In the year 902, the King of Nadarr - the wise Lord Myloch - opened the doors of the nations to host the first trade summit that had been known for hundreds of years. This in turn allowed the nations of Nadarr and Dalcimeer to act with other nations in their semi-independant role.
This is, it is believed, where the first signs of discontent may have appeared. The ruler of Nadar and Dalcimeer had some different opinions on what was required, though Lady Kalia (the Viceroy of Dalcimeer) was obviously over-ruled by her lord.
As the next few years passed, more mumblings of discontent could be seen - it is believed that the new nation of Dalcimeer came to loggerheads with their mothernation on several items, including talk of religion, power, autonomy and taxes.
The final landslide event is known only via rumours and whispers. The Lady Kalia had encountered a version of the deadly plague that had swept through elven lands many years before - it is said that she managed to over-come this sickness through some medical or magical rite long considered taboo by the elven people.
There are many theories and rumours as to how this was managed are abound; Dread necromancy as it is known that an old family friend had turned to this path (and been exiled), a huge favour from the avatars as the Viceroy and her adviser had dealings with one or more such apparitions, the swapping of blood with another and the rumour that Kalia is actually a different person. All are spoken of - none are confirmed.
However this came to the attention of the King, Kalia was branded as having tainted blood (Blood and bloodlines being of great import to the old Elven ways), and there was talk of her being executed or exiled.
Many of the people of Dalcimeer were outraged, there were some small vocal outbursts in the streets (unheard of in elven lands) and a general undertone of dissent in the populace.
Exactly what happened in between this and the events of 903 during a trade summit at Brindle are unknown, however Kalia 's adviser: Sidderr, had been plotting.
During the last hours of the delegations to Brindle - Sidderr announced in the presence of all the nations delegates, that Dalcimeer was declaring independance. All Nadarr forces had been removed from the elven colony and any attempt by the King to return would be met by force of a new naval fleet of Dalcimeerian design.
The delegates of Nadarr left to return to their home (or possibly Dalcimeers), and it is apparent that Sidderr,'s mysterious new naval fleet was real (though small).
Tempers were hot, and Sidderr was branded a traitor to the Elven nation. Although relations have improved since (especially after the Orc attack on Nadarr), there is still a general baring of fangs when these two nations meet.
The breakaway has been met with indifference in some countires but Pillai's Emperor issued this statement shortly afterwards
"Be it known that from this, the beginning of the second month of 507 by Pillai counting, 903 by everyone else's, that Emperor Borton Mor and the country of Pillai formally recognise the country of Dalcimeer as a seperate country no longer under the control of Nadar.
Visia Kalia has our full confidence and full support. We congratulate her and her people on this bold move. We wish them all good fortune for their future. The Visia is a personal friend of the Emperors and is therefore under his protection. Despite this, relations should remain normal between Dalcimeer and Nadar, little has changed, trade will continue as it always has done. All nations require trade of the one sort or another"
