The Plague Years

This period is at the transition of the Instigator to the Tyrant. The exact date cannot be specified due to the ever shifting start date for the Founding of Refuge. Though the date cannot be accurate the cause can, The Wastes.
People, creatures, plants were all corrupted by the toxic atmosphere in The Wastes which in turn infected the Citizens causing diseases and plagues to spread throughout the land. The devastation raged for six years, diseases and plagues were rife in Equil until the Priests, Mages and the appointed Kaine combined together to combat the root of the problem. This is all chronicled in ‘The Years of the Burning Plagues’ held in the archives of the Grand Central Cathedral in Sanctuary by Papal appointment only.
This ultimately lead to the banning of various alchemical practices and the growing of certain plants in Equil.
There have possibly been epidemics in other lands but the only recent known one was in Dalcimeer. Whether this was during, before or even after the Plague Years is unknown. Despite the efforts of those at the time new diseases do rear up but are swiftly dealt with.
Also in the last couple of years animal attacks similar in style to those during the Plague Years affected the borders of Equil, Dalcimeer and Pillai. Though the circumstances of the attacks were twofold the main attacks were stopped as detailed;,
“For over a year now the Pillai, Dalcimeer, and Equil borders have been suffering a number of beast attacks. Livestock have been found mauled and eaten and numerous farmers have either gone missing or been found dead.
Recent events have attributed the attacks to a creature named by an unknown source as the Bettnoir.
The creature appears to be in reality a disease which, one it infects a victim turns them into a monster. The creatures thus far identified have been covered in black fur and have a wolf or demon like face depending on the witness report.
While it was initially claimed that the creatures are impossible to kill, two of the beasts were slain in Pillai by a party of Emperor Borton Morr’s own men led by his Huntsman and Father Jinir. The cost of killing these creatures was apparently high.
Work is underway by parties from both Pillai and Dalcimeer to find a cure for the disease.
It would seem that now as last year the cold weather has brought a stop to the attacks. But is it just the cold that stopped the beasts, or something more?”''
Though again despite individuals best efforts it does seem now that attacks have spread to other countries.
Some Theological studies state that the Gods are more powerful at certain decades or centuries, so perhaps this has happened in the past though where and when is unknown. If true which God is responsible for the Plagues? Some say Garr though that is a simple response stated by peasants and the uninformed as those that truly know how Garr works can see the flaws of their arguments. The main contender is Dariss as whenever War occurs – disease follows soon after. There are those in Equil that believe the Dark Side Tale of a Deal struck at the Dawn Of Tempress either between Dariss and another God or with one of his Avatars’ that explains this phenomenon. Though it can be argued that this is a natural event but doesn’t that fall under the auspices of Alaie?
