Travelling Man

From Twilight Realms Wiki

Believed to be an Avatar of Sardonyx. The earliest known mention is in the History of Equil, so far there seems to be no other earlier records mentioning The Travelling Man. According to what records are left The Travelling Man was allegedly the individual responsible for starting the removal of The Wastes and its effects.

There is a conflict as to whether this was the Avatar or just a powerful individual. Other tales about The Travelling Man still make it unclear, so the debate still rages.

It is preached that The Travelling Man is the go-between of the Gods, traversing the Realms of the Living and The Dead. Used for Divine errands, it has garnered other names such as The Divine Wind and The Messenger. When a God speaks to His/Her subjects it is said the Travelling Man is that which guides the Holy Voices. Some believe it is The Travelling Man that makes the prophecies of the Gods manifest. In Equil the Doomsayers are said to be blessed(some say cursed) by this Avatar to hear the Voices of the Gods.

As to actual worshippers, most who undergo a journey, whether physical or spiritual, are said to ask a blessing of this Avatar to guide them along the correct Path. Those that use the byways and roads are also said to ask the Avatar’s favour, including Merchants, herdsmen and even thieves and bandits.

As to confuse matters even more, due to the many-faceted nature of being linked to Luck the sex, though stated and mainly worshipped as male, has been known, in some tales, as female. Normally, in the Tales from the Dark Side and historical records, the Avatar appears as an elderly man with staff and robe. He carries a bag or in some depictions a sack where he carries the messages of the Gods (or some say the Voices).

In Equil where this Avatar is mainly worshipped, it is linked to the appointment of a Citizen Kaine. All the Kaines that have ever been chosen were picked by this Avatar. The reasoning behind the choices has kept theologists and philosophers busy for decades.
