The Orcs of the wild lands are a scattered pathetic race. That is what the people of Helvettia and their Wild Elves would tell us. History would agree. For the most part Orcs were run out of the civilised world to scratch a life in the wild. They do not have the ability to work together, they thrive on inner conflict and in remembered history have never numbered more than one hundred in any one place. That makes the following tale even more shocking.
In the later months of the year 903 ,an Orc army numbering greater than five thousand moved from The Wild Lands into Helvettia effectively separating the Dragon Head Peninsula of the Wild Elves from Helvettia.
Also lost in the move was an elven garrison rumoured to have been set up by Villerr Nesquidarr of Dalcimeer.
The Orcs initially made no further moves.
In excess of 10,000 trained Helvettian soldiers are marching west from the city of Chalcedon on the Dragons head penninsula under the command of Legate Phillipus. A force of similar size has recently left the capital and are heading north.
Word had not yet reached Helvettia that a war was coming, so these troop movements were in response to the Orcs previous invasion months earlier. There can be no doubt that this will surely be seen as the first blow in what will become the biggest conflict since the Great War.
A large scale confrontation took place in early 904 between 20,000 trained Helvettian troops and the orc army. The Helvettians lead by Legate Philipus were shocked to see the 100,000 strong orc army but pressed their attack regardless. The Orcs deployed only a small fraction of their force to battle leaving 80,000 to retreat to the Wilds. The orcs fought in mixed groups with short range archers firing from in between standing troops. The orcs quickly fell back from the Helvettian after first strike. The Helvettians pursued only to be lead into a trap.
The Orcs had saturated the fields with a thick black substance. Once the Helvettians were on the field the Orc archers peppered them with fire arrows igniting the black substance and setting fields and forests ablaze. The Helvettians fell back in good order despite their losses. The remaining Orc forces retreated to a wooded fortification of their own construction. The Orcs had not wasted their time on Helvettian soil - they have chopped down nearly every tree in their reach for the contruction of their fort and burned the rest. Helvettian forces are presently holding the fort under siege. The orcs meanwhile have made clear their intent by nailing all high ranking captives to the walls of the fort.
Then for months it was quiet on the front of the Wild Lands. This was after the attack on Nadar and then a swift abandonment by the Orcs. Earlier in the year the Chevel docks were attacked for the second time in a year.
Helvettian and Brindle forces have been at the frontline of the fighting for months and have been making slow progress into the wilds.
Helvettian lands taken by the Orcs have now been reclaimed and the siege that held the Wild Elves in the Dragon Head Peninsula has now been lifted.
It would seem that the New Helvettian garrisons in the wilds with the Brindle 'night attacks' have given the orcs pause for thought. A second report from Dalcimeer elves skirmishing in the southern wilds has spotted the what has come to be known as the 'Black Fleet' docked near what only the orcs would describe as a city. The orcs are not gone but they are on the move.
