History
- Celts, horsemen and sailors - the people of Chevel have had the luxury of an island of their own, giving themselves heavy protection from much of the conflict that has affected the mainland. Nonetheless, they are a brave people and have never held back from sending representatives of their land when there is a larger crisis.
- Chevel have long claimed control of the sea, asking other lands to agree to their policy, “If you are on the sea, and you can’t see land. Chevel owns it.”
- The island is inhabited by eight tribes that are essentially Celtic in origin. After centuries of fighting one another they have slowly learnt to live together in relative harmony, although occasional rifts do occur which often result in armed melees between two or more of the tribes.
The Land
- Originally the island was split up between the various tribes, with each tribe holding a length of coastline and its immediate hinterland. Much of the inner island was disputed land and often changed hands following tribal wars. Following the formation of the Chevellauni, the disputed land was given/claimed by this new tribe along with a narrow tract of land leading to the sea, donated by two neighbouring tribes, the Boblogiaig and the Chorranwg. The original tribes still have their original lands, plus a portion of the inner island as an extension to their hinterland. Such a compromise was a key factor in the success of the famous (amongst the Chevellians, that is) Feast of Samain Meeting.
