God of Knowledge

Peridot is known as the god of knowledge and learning.
After the goddess Tempress turned against her fellow deities and created the World of Tempress, each of the six remaining gods, often referred to as the prime deities, chose to take up an aspect of life to watch over. Peridot chose knowledge.

Worshipers

As with all deities, the worshipers of Peridot come in a variety of forms.
Typically, Peridot worshippers are learned individuals, curious and constantly thinking. Not all followers of Peridot are academics, though many are, but people seeking answers to questions and struggles within their own lives, and the greater world.
Peridot is typically the patron god of librarians, teachers, bureaucrats and archives. He is also the most commonly worshipped deity amongst arcane casters, notably wizards.
Clerics of Peridot are eager to learn about all manner of things, and their aid generally comes with a price in information. Those that visit their temples will find themselves subject to questionnaires and conversations before their personal issues are addressed.
Worshipers of Peridot with other skill sets look to the God of Knowledge for guidance in their area of expertise. The wealth of information offered by Peridot is useful to all. For instance, the druid may study the anatomy of animals, the bard may immortalise their rendition of significant events, the wizard seeks to refine his power and thieves search for secrets.
Many Peridot worshipers from all over Tempress spend their lives saving in order to make the pilgrimage to The Great Library of Kahzara. The library holds the biggest and oldest collection of records known throughout the lands.
Those followers that belong to the church of Peridot tend to wear simple white and black robes, sometimes embellished with the hourglass symbol that represents their deity.
For our Into the Wilds D&D games, you can have a character of any class follow the Piety Path - Peridot, in order to get the God of Knowledge's favour.

Temples

Temples to Peridot are frequently confused with libraries. Indeed, they regularly function as both.
Usually stone-built buildings, houses of Peridot are broken up into smaller study spaces and private rooms where contemplation, study, research and record making can all be done with ease. This modular layout leaves a smaller space for congregational prayer, but there is still usually an alter for traditional prayer and guidance.
Private sanctums and studies are regularly adorned with hourglasses as symbols of Peridot's presence.

History

Peridot was the only god who took no side in the War of Divinity, when his fellow gods sided with the priests against the mages. Peridot believed that man should pursue knowledge and self fulfilment - even at the detriment to the gods.
