Corym Balfiel - High Cleric of Dariss

  • Name: Corym Balfiel
  • Race: Wood Elf

It was a dark stormy night as the high elven patrol made its way through the forest and came upon the scene of a massacre. It was a small settlement of wood elves that from the dead lying around had seemingly come under attack from a marauding band of orcs. The leader of the patrol was about to leave when his keen senses picked up a sound from a nearby dwelling that seemed at odds with the surroundings. Carefully making his way into the home he found the body of a female wood elf obviously slain by the raiders but his senses drew him to a noise underneath some floorboards nearby. Upon pulling the loose boards up he saw to his amazement a young babe staring back at him intently and sadness filled him as he realised that it was probably this baby's mother lying cold next to him. The sight of this young child pulled on the heartstrings of the elven warrior and he reached gently down and retrieved the bundle from the floorspace. knowing there was nothing else to be done here he took the child back to the elven quarter of Myste Hasse where he knew of a priestess who would know what to do with the child, and the temple of Dariss would give him the skills required to make his way in the world when he was older. Corym never got to thank his saviour as the patrol leader who left him under the protection of the church tragically lost his life a few short years later. He is however, remembered often in daily prayers. Corym grew up within the walls of the church, rarely going out due to his wood elf heritage and small stature making him the target of many bullies over the years. The martial training from the temple helped and he grew used to life in the elven quarter although he was always made to feel a bit of an outsider by the other elves, although over time he gained a grudging acceptance from most of them due mainly to his healing abilities. What he lacked in martial prowess he more than made up for tending to the wounded and sick. Once he felt that he had learnt all he could from the temple he decided to strike out and make his own mark on the world and that is where the true adventures began.
