Kythor, like all tieflings, suffered prejudice from other races, especially humans for the lineage of Tieflings. Shunned from most jobs for simply existing as he is and the target of the occasional hate crime. Kythor grew up on the harder side of life, his parents were kind and tried to teach him right from wrong. They were not rich but always had food on the table.
After his parents passed away Kythor went travelling trying to fight the ‘good fight’, he found comfort and splice in nature. Alaie became his sanctuary and set the tenants and foundations of his life then on. The wolf is not evil for eating a sheep, it is just nature. Tieflings are not evil by being born, evil is created and cultivated not inherited.
Kythor spent many years travelling from place to place, offering his services to those who needed it, more often than not tieflings. Jobs were hard to come by, often being paid less than his human colleagues despite working twice as hard. It is upon these travels he met who would become his life long friend and brother in arms - Ulfgar.
Ulfgar, a mountain dwarf, first met Kythor in a tavern in Pillai. Ulfgar had managed to get himself incredibly drunk as all dwarves do as well as into a little bit of trouble with several half orcs. Kythor stepped in to even the odds between the tension of 6 half orcs and a rather drunken dwarf. Between the two of them and far too many pints they got beaten black and blue, robbed of all their coin as well as disgraced publicly as the half orcs made a game of beating them up. Yet despite all of what they suffered last night, they found themselves staggering around the streets laughing with each other, fantasising and misremembering how the events of the evening turned out.
From that night on Ulfgar and Kythor became inseparable. Pushing each other onwards, emboldening the others weaknesses they became a duo of justice for the downtrodden. Sharing a disgust for bullies, inequality and those who are shunned from society for simply being born different, Kythor and Ulfgar travelled the world on one big pub crawl trying to rewrite injustices as they go.
With journeying to Myste-Hass and being chased out by a dragon before a drop of liquid could reach their lips the duo were not impressed by this new world colony. The refugees in the Tower of Dariss had watered down bog water for ale and more vinegar than wine. Which is why when the two were offered a trip to a new island and the chance for employment by Brodric they both jumped at the chance.
Brodric, and his dog Snowy, had a grand ship which took them to his new world. Kythor and Ulfgar were told the dwarves were there for other jobs, of which Kythor suspects them to be mining soul gems of long dead dwarves of the island. However a grand monstrous sized ship was beached and is owned by a rich dwarf named Gassapour, there could well be a handsome reward for returning it. Kythor heard a lot of rumours and talked about pure evil leaking from the ship.
This is clearly where Alaie wanted Kythor to be, to purge this evil and bring balance to this island. After spending the better part of 15 years devoted to Alaie and seeing the pure horror or true evil on this island of Oberon, Kythor started to doubt himself and Alaie. How could she as a goddess allow this to happen?
Kythor was always taught by his parents to see good in people and be the best version of himself he could be, people need to be saved! Even if it was at the expense of himself. This mantra that was taught to him as a child had only grown in his mind. This coupled with being constantly told by society that he is lesser than most and not worth anything, lead to a dangerous combination and ultimately ended up with Kythor making a deal with a fiend in exchange for the power to overcome bullies in the world and to allow him to do more good. After all, if his soul is damned but able to save many others then the sacrifice is worth the cost. The cost is yet unknown, a favour yet to be called upon that can not be refused.
